Requirements for luminous egress path markings became retroactive to existing high-rise buildings within in the State of Washington, with the adoption of the 2015 International Building Code [see IFC 1104.25, 1025], adopted as part of the Building Code 2015 of Washington, effective November 2015. With the implementation of the new building code, it is now mandatory for all new and existing high-rise commercial buildings in the State of Washington to install luminous egress signage and path markings in stairwells and landings.
Ecoglo® luminous egress path markings not only meet local and international code compliance, but exceed even the most stringent standards! Rely on Ecoglo® to bring your Washington facility up to code, with the best photoluminescent products on the market.
For more than 20 years, Ecoglo® has been perfecting our manufacturing process, to create a reliable, steady and long-lasting photoluminescent light source. Before luminous egress path markings were required by today’s building codes, Ecoglo® has been providing facilities nationwide with the most reliable emergency exit lighting products.
Each of our expertly engineered luminous egress path marking products are non-toxic and non-radioactive, making them the safer choice for your Washington facility. Ecoglo® products operate completely independently from the facility’s power source, relying only on exposure to a natural or artificial light source to gain a full charge. Once fully charged, our luminous egress path markings are sure to light your building’s egress path for hours after the power has failed.
Remember… with Ecoglo, you’ll never miss a step!
If the power in your Washington facility has failed, rest easy knowing occupants can safely and quickly exit the building, thanks to Ecoglo®’s luminous egress path markings.
In all conditions the visibility of stair treads, handrails, and other obstructions within an egress path way is crucial. In emergency conditions, the visibility of these aspects cannot be understated. People’s vision can often be compromised under such circumstances, especially since they are under duress, so it is crucial for patrons of buildings to be able to easily find their way out to safety. Luminous and photoluminescent marking systems can save lives, as they glow brightly, even through smoke, when everything else fails. When everything else fails, luminous egress path markings are the last line of defense for a building’s occupants.
Ecoglo®’s industry-leading products, and cost-effective solutions makes it easier than ever to bring your Washington facility up to code.
Section 1025 provisions provide an additional level of safety to buildings’ egress paths by requiring the installation of photoluminescent or self-illuminating marking systems that do not require electrical power and the associated wiring and circuits. This means that even if a building’s power supply fails to operate, photoluminescent egress markings ensure occupants can safely egress a building via exit stairways. This is especially necessary in high-rise buildings, which feature a greater anticipated occupant load and occupants which way not be familiar with the emergency exit path.

One of the many ways the Washington State Fire Marshal works to protect against loss of life and property from fires, is standardization. The State Fire Marshal’s Office works hard to standardized procedures, practices and education regarding fire safety across the state. The requirement for luminous egress path markings across the state aids in standardizing procedures that help to protect against the loss of life or property.
